There's something distressingly convincing about his women with their overdrawn red lips that were meant to reference the world created by Terry Gilliam in the movie "Brazil." It doesn't come across like he's making fun of or getting philosophical about women who would put so much of their power in the hands of superficialities and ringmasters. It feels as though he's condoning it, encouraging it. (AZCentral -- Style)

Reviewer annoyed by 'Watchmen'  Mar 9, 2009
You could sense Martin Scorsese and "Taxi Driver's" Travis Bickle in Moore's squalid New York and vigilante anti-hero Rorschach, but proposed movies by Terry Gilliam and Paul Greengrass failed to materialize, foundering on the comic book's sophisticated narrative chicanery. The solution proposed by Snyder and screenwriters David Hayter and Alex Tse is simply to ignore the problem and stick to the text. (CNN)

Review: 'Watchmen' Spellbinding, Complex  Mar 8, 2009
In addition to writer Alan Moore's refusal to participate in the creation of his work being made into a motion picture (his name actually does not appear in association with the film, and all interests were turned over to the comic book co-creator and illustrator Dave Gibbons), director Terry Gilliam said he couldn't make the complex film in under a five-hour running time and Paul Greengrass (the "Bourne" films) was also willing to make a go of it, but ended up ditching the idea. So what makes... (KERO 23, CA)

The superpowers of the novel are weakened, but 'Watchmen' still packs a wallop  Mar 6, 2009
Watchmen" is finally upon us, and that will mean everything to you or nothing. The new superhero movie - an anti-superhero movie in many ways - is based on a fearsomely smart DC comic series that ran for 12 issues in 1986 and '87, was quickly republished in book format, and has nourished a large and fanatic cult ever since. For good reason: As written by Alan Moore and drawn by Dave Gibbons, "Watchmen" the comic book has the ideas, the characters, the layered details, and the thematic heft of an... (Boston Globe)

Written by Alan Moore, and colored by John Higgins, the serialized comic book came out in 1986. This was the pre-Internet age Moore pounded out his scripts on a manual typewriter when most comics had an afterlife only in the back-issue bins. Yet Watchmen quickly achieved status as the Grail, the Bible, the Citizen Bob Kane... (Time.com)
