Film review: 'Hannah Montana' is down-home Disney fun Apr 28, 2009
Chelsom, who directed the American version of Shall We Dance (2004), stages some well-done production numbers, one of the strangest and best being a hip-hop hoedown. Hannah s newest hit, The Climb, is featured, and it s surprisingly good. (Kingston Mariner, MA)
OMG! Hannah Montana (and Miley) Top Box Office Apr 13, 2009
English director Peter Chelsom has made many bad movies (Hear My Song, The Mighty, the Warren Beatty disaster Town ry, the inept remake of the Japanese charmer Shall We Dance), most of them with a braying sentimentality summed up in the title of Chelsom's first feature film, Treacle. This time, he lucked into a hit, and a star who can sell her character's highs and lows without embarrassing herself any of her selves. (Time.com)
Review: 'Hannah Montana The Movie' Apr 10, 2009
"Hannah Montana," directed by Peter Chelsom (the Americanized "Shall We Dance," "Serendipity" and "Funny Bones"), is infused with music -- some toe-tapping, some heartfelt and most quite good, if a little overproduced at times. In addition to Miley and Billy Ray, performers include Taylor Swift and Rascal Flatts, and I suspect if some of the young moviegoers had been watching at home instead of a theater, they would have joined the "Hoedown Throwdown" line dance. (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, PA)
Fans will love new movie Apr 9, 2009
The predictable (though beautifully photographed) film from director Peter Chelsom ("Serendipity," "Shall We Dance?") finds Miley's dad, Robby Ray (Cyrus' real-life father, Billy Ray), taking her home against her will to reconnect with her roots. As in the "Hannah Montana" 3-D concert film from last year, Miley and Billy Ray Cyrus have an obvious, comfortable bond on camera; the moments they share seem sincere and provide some much-needed substance amid the perkiness and pratfalls. Movie Review: In "Tokyo Sonata," a family, and a society, tottering along a road to ruin Mar 14, 2009
Though no one does help her, Megumi ends up on a wild ride with a near-crazed would-be thief played by the great Koji Yakusho, the star of a handful of Kurosawa's best films, including "Cure." (Non-Japanese audiences might best remember him from the wistful romance "Shall We Dance?") By the time she heads off, the family has scattered like leaves, blown down such divergent paths that there are moments when it feels as if each were inhabiting an entirely different movie. Yet as the family... (International Herald Tribune)
