The Nightmare on Elm Street movies depended upon Robert Englund reprising his role as Freddy Krueger a killer who actually speaks but they were the exception and not the rule. It could be argued that the Jaws movies didnt really rely much upon an ensemble cast, even though Lorraine Gary does turn up in three of them. (MSNBC -- Movies)

The increasing number of horror remakes attempted to make a scary modern version with little results, though studios hope the upcoming Nightmare on Elm Street will change that, especially now that , replacing Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger (though arguably nothing was ever wrong with Englunds version).
