David Cross and Paul Rudd pop in as Cain and Abel, SNL's Bill Hader is almost unrecognizable as the village shaman, the other half of Tenacious D, Kyle Gass, drops by as a eunuch, Hank Azaria as Abraham is set to kill his son, Isaac, played by McLovin himself, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, and Harold Ramis himself even shows up, looking very un-Egon. The show stealer award has to go to Oliver Platt. (Suite101.com)

No, the only thing I've ever been to, and it's not quite the same thing, is years ago I went to a sort of charity event for The New Yorker at a supper club in Chelsea or something. There were some actresses, authors, various people. If you were to make a lazy stereotype of a The New Yorker reader, it was that kind of crowd.... (Time.com)

Give credit (and how) to Paul Rudd and Jason Segel for taking their extended male-bonding session and making it that increasingly rare comedy phenomenon which actually lives up to the hype. But don t forget writer-director John Hamburg ( Along Came Polly ), who might not be an Apatow brand name, but who manages to wring some comic details out of been-there-done-that setups. Is the Judd Apatow moment over?  Aug 2, 2009
But for me, those allegedly controversial elements of "Knocked Up" are less memorable than the steady but strained relationship between the secondary characters played by Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann (who is Apatow's wife in real life). Discomfort is often an element of good comedy, and in a few key scenes, "Knocked Up" wriggled far closer to the core of human suffering than most contemporary comedies do. (Salon)

Apatow's "Funny People" Based on Real Life  Jul 30, 2009
In just four years, Apatow has either produced or helped write ten movies, among them "Superbad," "Pineapple Express," "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" and "You Don't Mess With the Zohan." He wrote and directed his "Virgin" follow-up, "Knocked Up." He helped make stars out of Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill and Paul Rudd. Now, like a politician spending accrued political capital, Apatow has used his leverage to make "Funny People," a plainly ambitious 2-1/2 hour film that has Hollywood wondering if he's... (CBS News)

Falling in love onsceen  Jul 17, 2009
But what you feel Seth Rogen feeling for Paul Rudd in Knocked Up (2007) is slightly more than platonic. Until the spell warps, they have the movie s only lovingly romantic chemistry, and for long stretches - especially during that suspenseful trip to Vegas - there s really every reason to believe that once their long true heart-to-heart is over, Katherine Heigl won t be the only character with child. Sentinel Lunchtime Blog (Movies): Role immersion a rarity in Hollywood  Jul 9, 2009
Will Ferrell is always a man a few cards short of a deck, Steve Carrell is almost always a nerdy or incompetent character and Paul Rudd is the nice, lovable, though slightly awkward leading or supporting man (with the exception of some cameo appearances). In a sense, Baron Cohen does join this group, considering most of his roles can be connected to his use of cringe-worthy antics on screen. (Carlisle Sentinel, PA)

Real estate agent Peter Klaven (Paul Rudd) is a sensitive and caring guy and has just proposed to the love of his life, Zooey (Rashida Jones) ... Critic's Rave: 'Year One' sends comedy back to the stone age  Jun 26, 2009
From a talent standpoint, it most likely had the appearance of relative safety, since it is populated with bankable comedic actors (mostly from the Judd Apatow troupe of regulars) that not only includes leads Jack Black and Michael Cera, but also the likes of David Cross, Paul Rudd, Hank Azaria and an over-the-top Oliver Platt, who takes his hedonistic High Priest character to ridiculous places few actors would dare traverse. The real gamble, however, is with the material itself. (Chippewa Falls Chippewa Herald, WI)

Review: Few laughs seem result of luck, not design in ’Year One’  Jun 20, 2009
As if to prove Zed s point, they soon run into Cain (David Cross) slaying Abel (Paul Rudd in an uncredited cameo) in a surprisingly violent, laugh-free scene that plays like one of those goes-on-too-long Satur-day Night Live sketches that reek of desperation. What follows as they head off to what appears to be some ancient Roman outpost and then the Sodom-Gomorrah metroplex is a cascade of excrement jokes, fart jokes, urine jokes, sex jokes and gay jokes that feel as if they were scrawled... Review: 'Year One' with Jack Black  Jun 20, 2009
And so the two cavemen, presumably living about 20,000 years ago, come down from the mountains and run into the farmers, Cain (David Cross) and Abel (Paul Rudd). Soon we find ourselves in early biblical times, with Zed and Oh (Cera) running into Abraham (circa 2000 B.C.) at a crucial moment. (San Francisco Chronicle)

Even with the customary complement of Apatow veterans on hand stars Jack Black and Michael Cera, with Paul Rudd, Bill Hader, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Ramis himself wandering through the movie tuckers us out. Year One: Jokes from the Stone Age  Jun 19, 2009
" Abraham is down on Sodom, as you can imagine, but that's where Zed and Oh are bound (there's a subplot revolving around rescuing the women they love from slavery). They meet up again with Cain (he's a running joke, but in Cross's cheerfully detestable hands, a bad one), who leads them on a tour of the city. "You know what's the best part about Sodom. "Year One"  Jun 19, 2009
The harsh truth hits like a rock with Ramis' "Year One," in which Jack Black and Michael Cera play lazy Paleolithic hunter-gatherers who stumble through an adventure that includes encounters with squabbling siblings Cain and Abel (played by David Cross and Paul Rudd, respectively), romantic intrigue with a headstrong princess (Olivia Wilde), and an introduction to the novel concept of circumcision at the hands of the prophet Abraham (Hank Azaria). THE FRONT ROW: Down in flames  Jun 17, 2009
Things got really wild in the final comedy segment, which featured Buck s high school buddy (and A-list movie star) Paul Rudd, Saturday Night Live standout Jason Sudeikis, and the one-man talk-show wrecking crew, Artie Lange. Sentinel Lunchtime Blog (Movies): Comedies revel in the extremes  Jun 4, 2009
Just as Chris Farley took full advantage of his build to crack jokes, Paul Rudd works his awkward, nice guy act in plenty of movies, while Jack Black and Will Ferrell rely on their brainless antics to get a few laughs in their respective roles. What has been successful in some recent comedies is basing some of the sketches in real life experiences. (Carlisle Sentinel, PA)

Is SNL getting lame again? Sweat drops!  Apr 6, 2009
They shouldve run Muppets earlier in the night, killed the Grease and Milestone High skits, turned Angie/Madge into its own skit and found some way to get Paul Rudd on the show. Because you cant have a real bromance without both Seth and Paul. (Seacoast New Hampshire)

‘Monsters vs. Aliens' has great star power, weak story  Apr 4, 2009
At the tail end of a pretty hectic South By Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival week, I decided to break away from downtown Music Fest craziness and took my grandson to see DreamWorks' Monsters vs. Aliens in 3-D. It's a long way from Lavin's vaguely homophobic folk needling. Indeed, the signs of bromance are budding everywhere this spring - including MTV, where our very own Luke Verge from Medford won a spot in Brody Jenner's clique by competing in a reality show against other dudes who also wanted Jenner's hand in, er, friendship.
