by the graphic imagery (such as the then-revolutionary special effects as well as semi-subliminal shocks) and intense soundtrack, which included the now-iconic main theme "Tubular Bells." With actual actors (Ellen Burstyn, Miller, Max von Sydow) further anchoring the fantastic and excruciating aspects of the film in reality, as opposed to the CW Network also-rans who populate most modern horror films, the end result is a terrifying movie experience where the pea soup flies as fast and hard today... (Encore on Comcast) OK B-level Stephen King, about the way hell breaks loose when the devil, played by Max von Sydow, sets up shop in a Maine coastal town and starts pushing people s buttons. More conventional and less layered than the best King films - The Shining and Carrie - it gets the job done because while new director Fraser Heston s pacing is uneven, he makes contact with the essential misanthropy in King s writing. Review: 'International' Smart, Exciting  Feb 14, 2009
It's a great scene, enhanced even more by Irish actor Brian O'Byrne as the coolly efficient assassin (think "Three Days of the Condor" and Max Von Sydow for a comparison to a similar business-like killer). Tykwer is clearly at the top of his game with "The International," a taut, suspenseful and intelligent action film. (KFOXTV.com, TX)

    The International  Feb 14, 2009
Thankfully, the venerable (in a role that once would have likely been played by Max von Sydow) makes his character's moral failings and complicated motivations understandable and fascinating. And Brotherhood's Brian F. O'Byrne nicely plays the IBBC's hired gun, a part reminiscent of the sleeper agent portrayed by Clive Owen in The Bourne Identity. (IGN FilmForce)
