A jarring Pandora-like ‘Box’ Nov 7, 2009
This is a freak-out along the lines of Rosemary s Baby, Don t Look Now, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, or The Shining, where a director s simple understanding of where to put a camera or when to cut away radically changes how an image affects you. When Arlington tells Norma that he is calling from outside the house, there s a cut to man, looking into her kitchen window, who is not Frank Langella. (Boston Globe)
Ten alien abductions, from V to X-Files Nov 6, 2009
In many ways, it riffed on non-abduction classic Invasion of the Body Snatchers (which just had the humans taken over on their home planet). However, there was a later payoff to the replacements when the kidnapped characters finally returned. (MSNBC -- Technology)
Exploring the attraction of horror films Nov 1, 2009
The scary movies of the 1950s, such as Invasion of the Body Snatchers, depicted a loss of control and individuality and tapped into fear of communism. Today Reiss said you see many films tapping into fear of plague, such as in Quarantine and 28 Days. (Medfield Press, MA)
Aliens invade, disguised as Larry David! Nov 1, 2009
What we don't want, and what we get, is talk of "building a resistance." Building a resistance is tiresome and pointless, it's ground that's been thoroughly trampled by "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" and "Terminator" and "Independence Day" and "Battlestar Galactica" and "Star Wars," and, hell, "Reds." Ragtag bands of grass-roots rebels gathering in secret warehouses to plan how to take down a much larger and more powerful foe. If Han Solo isn't getting called a scruffy-looking nerf herder, I... 'Surrogates' gives birth to mediocrity Sep 30, 2009
There's something borrowed from a long line of movies offering variations on a conformist, controlled-culture theme, from "The Stepford Wives" to "Invasion of the Body Snatchers.". But where those films warned against a male-dominated society and the communist threat, "Surrogates" worries about the hours you spend connected to a pale little screen. Bruce Willis' 'Surrogates': The Reviews Are In! Sep 26, 2009
"[It] distinguishes itself from countless other thematically overlapping films by being not about robots run amok, but about humans seduced by the easy life; humanity here has 'advanced' so far that it has become subordinate to its substitute. As a cautionary sci-fier, it's not all that far removed from such classics as 'The Day the Earth Stood Still' and 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers.' ". Others don't see "Surrogates" coming close to the realm of classic sci-fi territory. (VHI.com -- Music News)
Top 10 Movies to Watch on Halloween Aug 24, 2009
4) Halloween III. Though that pesky Michael Myers is nowhere to be found in this superior sequel, don't let that scare you away from this excellent film with it's take on the paranoia of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers". Children's Halloween masks are being made into deadly weapons, and it's up to the great Tom Atkins to try to stop the madness. (Suite101.com)
Seven Great Horror Remakes Aug 20, 2009
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978, Philip Kaufman) & Body Snatchers (1993, Abel Ferrara): Two stylistically distinct remakes of the 1954 classic, in which aliens systematically replace humanity with emotionally void clones, are each of virtually equal worth (yes, it's a cheat to count this as one spot). Kaufman's much-lauded version stresses the loss of emotion and humanity; Ferrara's underappreciated take goes one further and ponders the very resilience of the soul. (Suite101.com)

The movie, obviously patterned after the classic Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956), is regarded by some film students as, like Invasion;, a story of the conflict between Freedom and Communism. Others see it as an allegory on marriage and how husbands and wives can grow apart. (Suite101.com)

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) "I'm a chicken about most things. I remember being scared of Sam the Eagle on The Muppets. But Invasion of the Body Snatchers is the scariest movie I've ever seen because it taps into my psychological fears. I have this recurring nightmare where I'm coming down to the dinner table and my family has no idea who I am. That movie really played on that fear of how completely people can change.". 'Lost' finale May 15, 2009
Lost has stolen from so many movies and TV shows The Twilight Zone, Planet of the Apes, Raiders of the Lost Ark, to name a few you can now add Invasion of the Body Snatchers to that list. The artist, not the art Apr 30, 2009
It's like an updated "Invasion of the Body Snatchers," only the aggressor is not an extraterrestrial pod but our own out-of-control technology. You also won't be able to ignore Chris French's feathery, three-legged alien sculptures; Stephanie Barto's multilayered, multimedia hallucinations; and Jeanette Alverz's effortless but by no means simplistic photographs of a tattooed father cradling and kissing his young son. Squaring Off With Obama Mar 27, 2009
For my part, I felt a lot like Kevin McCarthy in the movie, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, trying to warn my fellow earthlings that the pod people were among us and definitely up to no good. Its not just the big things the man does, things such as the kazillion dollar bail-outs, the trichinosis-infested budget and the threat of the Fairness Doctrine being enacted, that make my blood run cold. Admit it, you've always wanted to see Dracula take on Nosferatu, or the Arachnids of Klendathu from "Starship Troopers" duke it out with the Pod People from "Invasion of the Body Snatchers." Keanu Reeves as Klaatu in the remake of "The Day the Earth Stood Still" versus David Bowie as "The Man Who Fell to Earth". It's an intergenerational intergalactic dude-off. (Boston Globe)
This Is A Gang Feb 15, 2009
"The Wanderers" (1979): We're fans of this cult favorite by Philip Kaufman, which has become overshadowed by the movies he made before and after - "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" and "The Right Stuff." But even though the rest of the film about New York gangs is solid, the fight at the end looks like one of those battles they stage at your local Renaissance Faire. Imagine "Braveheart" filmed by Ed Wood. (San Francisco Chronicle -- Entertainment)
