    Robert Zemeckis' 'Christmas Carol': Bah humbug. Too many special effects  Nov 7, 2009
    The dialogue includes lines many of us could recite by rote from watching various tellings of the story over the years (an excellent version with George C. Scott is one of my favorites).     Scrooge has been played by Reginald Owen (for MGM in 1938), the great Alastair Sim (in a 1951 film known alternately as Scrooge or A Christmas Carol), Albert Finney (in a 1970 musical version) and Michael Caine (with the Muppets) on the big screen, and by John Carradine, Ralph Richardson, Fredric March, George C. Scott and country star Hoyt Axton on the small. The story was worked into episodes of The Six Million Dollar Man (they called it A Bionic Christmas Carol) and Blackadder. (Time.com)

    Is this destined to become the classic Scrooge for the 21st century, supplanting Sim, George C. Scott, Michael Caine, Bill Murray and all. Only the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come could tell us that, but for sure it has the trappings of a gaudy Christmas present -- even if sometimes it's a bit hollow. (CNN)
