Theater review: 'The Unexpected Man'  Jul 16, 2009
With Reza's "Art" still cropping up everywhere, it's a wonder it's taken so long for "Man" - a London hit in 1998 (with Michael Gambon and Eileen Atkins) - to get a decent Bay Area staging. It had a disappointing local premiere in Lafayette in 2005, but it takes actors of this caliber to negotiate Reza's cagily meandering interior monologues in Christopher Hampton's typically incisive translation. New On DVD: 'Benjamin Button,' 'Last Chance Harvey'  May 9, 2009
Bolstered by wonderful supporting turns by Balaban, Baker, Brolin, Richard Schiff (as Harvey's producer) and Eileen Atkins (as Kate's needy mom who has her own unusual subplot cooking), "Last Chance Harvey" is lean, clean and a good old-fashioned romantic tale that can't be missed. It's not only an inspirational tale of romance; it's also a story of redemption and courage in the face of adversity. (KFOXTV.com, TX)

Last Chance Harvey  Mar 2, 2009
When she's not attending to the comfort of passengers, she's miserable: bookish and awkward, she's self-conscious on a rare blind date and her best friend is her anxiety-ridden mother, Maggie (Eileen Atkins). Hopkins audaciously intercuts their comically sad stories to clever and spritely effect over the film's first half-hour, with the only mystery being when the two will finally notice the other exists. (Sydney Morning Herald -- Entertainment)

Movie review: Hoffman, Thompson shine in so-so 'Harvey'  Feb 10, 2009
James Brolin and Richard Schiff are well cast in two very small but pivotal parts, and Eileen Atkins as Kate s mother, Maggie, is effective as well. While the screenplay and direction by Joel Hopkins are just OK, one thing the director does do is stay out of the way when Hoffman and Thompson are interacting. (Lompoc Record, CA)

    TV highlights, Sunday 8th  Feb 8, 2009
By dame, I refer to Judi Dench, playing against type as a kindly, somewhat faded lady called Matty Jenkyns who is overpowered by her rather more magnificent older sister, Deborah (Eileen Atkins), in a rural town called called Cranford. They form the nucleus of a hub of chattering womenfolk who keep the ondits flowing, circa 1840s. (Sydney Morning Herald -- Entertainment)
