The only Alfred Hitchcock movie filmed in 3-D was Dial M for Murder in 1954. One reason the 3-D fad of the 1950s didn t last: two prints had to be projected simultaneously, and when they got out of sync, the film became virtually unwatchable, leading to headaches and eyestrain. Designers honor Grace Kelly's cool, classic style Oct 21, 2009
It was her last film role before exiting Hollywood to raise her family as a princess, but she had star turns in '50s Hitchcock movies "To Catch a Thief," "Rear Window," and "Dial M for Murder." She won a best actress Oscar for "Country Girl" in 1954. The Kobal Collection / Lisa Lori Communications / APThis photo shows a dress worn by Grace Kelly in the film "Rear Window" that inspired Carolina Herrera to design her own version. Meatballs serves up a goofball comedy Sep 16, 2009
The pop culture references (I spotted nods to Dial M for Murder, Mystery Science Theater 3000 and even Welcome to Mooseport) are subtle enough and fly by so quickly that they wont make the movie dated by the time it hits DVD. Theres also lots of under-the-breath asides and blink-and-youll-miss-em sight gags that will reward multiple views. And kids will want multiple views, I suspect, even at home without the 3-D glasses. Why 3D movies have become the real thing Sep 12, 2009
Alfred Hitchcock went stereoscopic with Dial M for Murder but declared 3D a nine-day wonder and I came in on the ninth day. There was even a 3D musical Kiss Me Kate. (Sydney Morning Herald -- Entertainment)
Sony throws down the 3D gauntlet with new TV Sep 4, 2009
In 1946, the Soviet Union made "Robinzon Cruzo", the world's first talkie in colour and 3D, and in the 1950s there were more than 60 others including Alfred Hitchcock's "Dial M for Murder" before studios put 3D on the back burner. In the 1970s and early 1980s studios tried with offerings like "Jaws 3D" and "Friday the 13th, Part 3", with cinemas issuing cardboard glasses, but it was not until the 1986 invention of the IMAX format that 3D came into its own. AVATAR: The movie that will change cinema forever? Aug 22, 2009
It's not the first time cinema has flirted with 3D - Alfred Hitchcock even experimented with the technology when he filmed Dial M for Murder in the 1950s. But the results have often been derided, either for hokey effects or poor stories, with Spy Kids 3D and Journey to the Centre of the Earth both getting a lukewarm reception. (The Drudge Report)

Movie Gimmicks Mar 26, 2009
Alfred Hitchcock's Dial M for Murder (above) was possibly the pinnacle of the movement, and while the format gradually died down, there have been spurts of (unfortunate) interest ever since Jaws 3-D, anyone. The result: Box office returns from the recent 3-D slate have been mixed, but this latest revival may have legs. (Time.com)
3-D rises from the dead Mar 21, 2009
Hitchcock made "Dial M for Murder" in 3-D, and "Kiss Me Kate" was nominated for an Oscar. The older movies were also sunk by cheap theater owners who insisted on the less-expensive anaglyph 3-D images, which resulted in poorer picture quality and much of the headache and nausea issues.
