There are dog people, cat people and still others who bypass fur entirely for a fish or a reptile. Maybe that's not such a good thing. (The Augusta Chronicle)

ANOTHER TAKE ON TORONTO: The 'Arizona Republic's Goodyblog  Sep 12, 2009
" "Cat People (Putting Out Fire)" from, interestingly enough, "Inglourious Basterds," not its original use in the remake of "Cat People. " (And rightly so; it's much better in 'Basterds.') "A Change Is Gonna Come" in "Malcolm X." "Everybody's Talkin' " from "Midnight Cowboy. (USA Today -- Life)

Movie Review: Inglourious Basterds  Aug 21, 2009
Tarantino's favourite character in Inglourious Basterds is clearly Laurent's avenging Judith: her story arc is the most detailed, and she's the focus of a beautiful montage set to David Bowie's "Cat People." With any luck, she should receive some Oscar notice. Waltz also deserves an Oscar nomination for his role as a cunning Gestapo officer with his own agenda. (Suite101.com)

    "Inglourious Basterds"  Aug 21, 2009
It also caps off its two-and-a-half-hour run time with an extended finale partially orchestrated to David Bowie's "Cat People" theme song, no less that I could watch again and again with pleasure. In other words, Tarantino has taken a huge leap and made a movie that doesn't fully work, which presents those of us who love his work, hate his work or love-hate his work which should cover just about everybody with a confounding question: Do we praise the leap, or shake our fists at the result. Why is David Bowie s Cat People title song trotted out here - not once but twice. Because QT likes it, that s why. (Boston Globe)

    'Inglourious Basterds'  Aug 20, 2009
The use of David Bowie's "Cat People (Putting Out Fire)," last heard in the 1982 remake of "Cat People," during a crucial moment. It sounds like exactly the wrong thing to use. (AZCentral -- Entertainment)

Inglourious Basterds is a world war hoot  Aug 19, 2009
The suspense and action and performances are all so spot-on here that I couldnt help feeling disappointed when Tarantino would play one of his Brechtian canards, like using the David Bowie theme song from Cat People or joltingly identifying one of the basterds with a freeze-frame title card, complete with blacksploitation-era font. Its one thing when Godard violates the fourth wall, since he tends to use distancing devices throughout. (MSNBC -- Movies)

Quentin Tarantino spins new ending to WWII  Aug 14, 2009
Who else would deliver a World War II movie where chatty characters trade more barbs than bullets and the action plays to a musical backdrop including David Bowies Cat People and Ennio Morricone spaghetti western themes. Tarantino, 46, said his alternate reality was an outgrowth of the way he develops a narrative, which he describes as a metaphor-paved road the characters trod, with all sorts of side roads they can turn down. 22), as well as more eclectic fare, such as a July 31 Jacques Tourneur double feature ("Cat People" and "I Walked With a Zombie," both about, more or less, a woman's sexual awakening); David Lean's "The Passionate Friends," the little-seen follow-up to "Brief Encounter," on Aug. 8; and "The Enchanted Cottage" (Aug. 22), where two "ugly" people (Robert Young, Dorothy McGuire) find each other "beautiful" in each other's eyes. Pitt, Tarantino alter WWII history with `Basterds'  May 22, 2009
Tarantino sticks to period costumes and settings but offers his typically divergent musical backdrop, including Spaghetti Western-style music from Ennio Morricone and even David Bowie's "Cat People (Putting Out Fire"). Debuting in theaters in the United States and elsewhere starting in late August, "Inglourious Basterds" is one of 20 films competing for the Palme d'Or, Cannes top prize, the award Tarantino won with 1994's "Pulp Fiction.". The Last Remnant Review  Mar 21, 2009
Really the most distinctive aspects of most characters are their haircuts or their race, as the world is populated by a seemingly randomized collection of animal-humanoids ranging from cat people to fish men. The setting is given a medieval-fantasy type of feel through the general style of clothing and architecture, but it never hits on anything that feels fully-formed. (IGN PC Games)

New on DVD: Swedish vampire, 'Elegy,' Giancarlo Giannini  Mar 20, 2009
Until now, the centerpiece of 1942's Cat People has been regarded as the horror genre's gold standard of swimming-pool creepiness. At very least, it's a tie with the bravura climax here. (USA Today -- Life)
